Perfect pair: how to team bathroom tiles for a luxe look

Whether you’re looking to give your bathroom a simple refresh or a totally new look, pairing tile designs has the power to transform your space.

We know that when it comes to choosing a single tile design for yourbathroom, our huge selection might seem a little overwhelming. Frommarbleto concrete, plain orpatterned, we have styles to inspire everyone, making it tricky to whittle down your choice to just one.

Which is why opting for two designs might just make it a bit easier. If your heart is being pulled towards one design and your head the other, why not opt for both by pairing tile designs to create a unique and stylish tile combination for your bathroom you’ll love forever.

How to pair bathroom tiles?

So how do you go about pairing tiles in your bathroom? Firstly, it depends what sort of look and style you are going for. Just like in fashion, playing with different prints, patterns and colours as well as mixing up the scales and textures can lead to bespoke creations to suit both your personality, and your home.

Play with your colour palette

A good place to start is your colour palette. You may want to keep things classic and stick with ablack and white bathroom tiles combination, in which case ourDi Scacchi Tumbled Marblewould make a great choice as a readytogo pair. These medium scale tiles can be arranged in a traditionalchequerboardlayout to create the base for a stunning bathroom floor that would pair with just about any of our designs.

If you’re keeping it simple, ourHoxton Black Gloss Porcelainwould be a classy option, but to really make a style statement, try pairing them with a smaller scale patterned tile, like ourTangier Ava Blue Ceramic. Inspired by vintageMoroccandesigns, the colours tie nicely with the monochrome hues of the Di Scacchi marble floor tiles, but bring a little more playfulness to your bathroom.

Sticking with the same shape and size but mixing up colour is another great method of pairing bathroom tiles. Green tiles continue to be a popular choice for bathrooms. Playing with differentways with green tilessuch as teaming varying pigments results in a striking scheme.

We love the combination of ourZellige Tropical Green Gloss Ceramictile teamed with thePetrol Blue option to inject some colour to your bathroom. Plus, their subtle gloss finish will give your washroom an elegant glow. With another ten shades in this collection to choose from also, it’s not just green and blue that make the perfect pair, so try experimenting with other bathroom tiles combinations. If you’re keen to see how the tiles would look together in your bathroom and to make sure they’re the perfect fit, order a sample(or in this case a single tile).

Experiment with texture & pattern

If bold colour isn’t your thing, but you love the idea of combining two different tile designs, then playing with scale, textureand pattern could be the perfect bathroom tile pairing for you.

In contrast to the smooth and glossy surface of the Zellige Gloss range, we have plenty to offer with a more tactile finish, making it easy totransform your space with textured tiles. Or if you love the style of both and as the saying goes, take the rough with the smooth combine them together to add interest to your bathroom walls and floor. Teaming ourCalacatta Honed Marble Fluted Decor, with their tactile, ridged finish, with ourOpera Sand Satin Porcelaintile, which features a more gloss surface, creates a dynamic pairing that works beautifully in both a bathroom or cloakroom.

Use different laying methods

Finally, another great way of pairing tiles for bathrooms is by their layout. If you like the idea of contrast but also continuity, try picking tiles from the same family and in the same colourway, but mix up the way you lay them out.

Below we’ve teamed ourAlsace Honed Marblepresented in a simple, stacked horizontal layout across the lower section of the wall, with ourAlsace Honed Marble Herringbone Mosaic which, as its name suggests, have been laid in a herringbone pattern on the upper section of the wall. The difference in pattern adds interest to the room, but sticking to the same colour keeps the space calm and concise.

Our favourite bathroom tile combinations

If you’re looking for a little more inspiration, we’ve pulled together some of the best bathroom tile combinations to transform your washroom, including some of our favourite new designs. With plenty of options forlarge format tiles or small, intricate designs, we’ve got a style to suit you and your space. Let these delectable duos spark inspiration for you.

Gloss & matt

First up, a pairing that looks good enough to eat. Here we’ve teamed our tastyToffee Hoxton Gloss Porcelaintile on the walls with our stunning and elegantArabescato Gold Honed Marbleon the floor.

Presenting the glossy Toffee Hoxton in a basketweave layout brings a level of modernity, while the classic matt marble keeps things sophisticated. The beauty of our Hoxton range means you can lay them in a number of ways, fromherringbone to brick, chevron or staggered, so don’t be afraid to mix things up to suit your space and vision.

Textured & smooth

For a more serene and sophisticated feel, try teaming ourJura Nouveau Beige Matt Stone Effect Porcelainwith a textured tile that just has to be touched. OurAlessi Bone Decor Matt Porcelaintile has a matt, clay-like surface featuring an organic, geometric design ideal for creating a beautifully bespoke bathroom.

Subtly coloured in a stunning ivory hue, they are perfect for a feature wall, so tile from ceiling to floor for maximum impact. To create a contrast to their linear shape, opt for the large-format size of the Jura Nouveau on the floor for a boutique hotel, spa-like feel.

Bright & beautiful

For the colour lovers, start with aterrazzo effect tile for your bathroom tile combination, flecked with a rainbow of hues. Here we’ve chosen ourTerrazzo Pink Honedtile, with a delicate and light pastel pink base colour and chips in rich pinks, greys and pearly whites. To compliment the pink shade, we’ve paired them with our warm and vibrantCapri Sunset Honed Marble, featuring further shades of rich pink and purple veining across this striking matt marble.

Teaming this with a ‘colour of the moment’ butter yellow bath tub, only adds to the sense of fun this bathroom exudes, and with many morepink tilesto choose from, you can bring candy colours to your washroom for a super sweet setting.

Little & large

Another of our favourite examples of pairing tiles for bathrooms has to be this dramatic duo, perfect for adding some moody ambience to your bathroom. On the floor is ourGemstone Black Matt Onyx Effect Porcelainin its full 1.2m long glory. Ideal for bothfloors and walls, the intricate veining of these tiles really makes a statement, along with their generous size. On the walls, we have ourHoxton Ivory Ridge Decor Gloss, which give the illusion of slim, linear ridges that can be laid either horizontally, or vertically, like we’ve done here.

The contrast between the depth and expanse of the floor tiles, matched with the intricacy of the glossy wall tiles, makes for a space that demands attention.

Timeless & tranquil

Our final bathroom tiles combination is ideal for creating a tranquil and calming, sanctuarystyle washroom, giving you a space to relax and unwind. The floor has been tiled with ourBasilica Troy Matt Marble Effect Porcelain, in a large format tile to ensure a seamless finish. With a warm honey undertone, the light grey colour creates a timeless base which can be paired with a huge selection of our tiles. For this space, to match the same warm, earthy tones, we’ve tiled the shower walls in ourBasilica Troy Matt Fluted Decor Marble Effect Porcelain, to bring some texture and visual interest to the scheme.

The brass hardware and tile edging, adds a touch of glamour to the space and the use of ourKobi Ivory Satin Porcelaintiles on the walls keeps the room from looking too busy.

So, with so many bathroom tile combinations to try, what would be your perfect pairing?
