How to layer rich tones at home

Spaces layered through texture, tone and natural material.

Luxury is found in the quiet details. Defined less by statement and more by how a space is experienced.

Right now, we are drawn to interiors with a more personal feel. Layered materials, softer contrasts and natural variation create spaces that feel relaxed, thoughtful and less trend-led.

Across the home, surfaces are being combined in more inventive ways, from tonal bathrooms and patterned floors to warmer palettes and richer finishes. The result feels individual, thoughtful and designed to evolve naturally over time.

Organic instinct

Crazy Paving has a way of making a floor feel completely its own. Milan Tumbled Limestone Crazy Paving brings together soft greys, beige and taupe in an irregular, organic layout — no two pieces the same, no two floors identical. It’s a surface that feels shaped by nature rather than manufactured, and that’s exactly its appeal.

Paired with Nero Riven Slate on the wall, the combination finds a natural balance. The deep, near-black tone of the slate grounds the warmth of the limestone below it, while both materials share the same honest, tactile quality. Rough-edged, characterful and quietly luxurious.

Depth and drama

Some floors ask to be noticed. This chequerboard of Rojo Alicante Honed Marble and Dark Emperador Honed Marble is exactly that. A pairing that brings real depth and drama to a room without sacrificing warmth. The deep russet and terracotta tones of the Rojo Alicante sit alongside the rich, dark veining of the Emperador, each tile amplifying the other.

Both in a honed finish, the surface is smooth and refined but never cold. Set on the diagonal as shown, the chequerboard pattern adds movement and pace to the floor, making even a modest room feel considered and complete.

Warm contrast

This bathroom shows exactly what happens when you commit to contrasting materials. Dark Emperador Honed Marble brings real presence to the walls. Its deep, dramatic tones and bold veining make it a surface you want to be surrounded by rather than simply look at. The honed finish keeps it refined, letting the natural character of the stone do the work.

The softness comes from Grafton Honey Beige Gloss Porcelain alongside it. The warm honey tones and gentle gloss of the Grafton sit beautifully next to the weight of the marble, stopping the room from feeling heavy and giving the eye somewhere to rest. It’s a pairing that feels genuinely luxurious without trying too hard.

Full commitment

This is a bathroom that commits fully to colour and material, and it’s all the better for it. Grafton Indigo Gloss Porcelain covers the walls in deep, rich blue, its slim fluted format adding rhythm and texture to what could easily have been a flat, heavy surface. The gloss finish catches the light beautifully, giving the room a depth that shifts depending on where you stand.

Below it, Rosso Levanto Honed Marble grounds the whole space. The dark, wine-red tones of the floor pick up the warmth in the walls without softening them, creating a palette that feels genuinely bold and completely coherent. Together they show what’s possible when you stop playing it safe with colour.
