7 ways with brick tiles

From rustic and reclaimed in style to
streamlined subway designs, brick tiles are
a perennially popular choice.

Whether used indoors or out, for walls or on floors, brick tiles have a fuss-free utilitarian quality that can be dialled up or played down, depending on the tone, texture and surface details of the chosen design.

Our extensive range of brick tiles includes a huge array of styles and finishes, from the long and slender Loki to our chunkier, and more rugged, Brik design. The beauty of these tiles is that their size and shape allows for a host of possibilities when applying them. For example, stacking your tiles will create a different visual effect to staggering them, just as the orientation of the design has the power to change how your eye perceives the dimensions of your space. Lay horizontally or vertically to suit the proportions of your project, or in a herringbone formation for a subtle injection of pattern.

Whether installing modern brick tiles in a contemporary kitchen or selecting rectangular designs for a period home, we have a vast and varied range to choose from. Discover a few of our current favourites below.

1. Choose a glazed brick tile with lots of tonal variation

With their subtle differences in colour and texture, and their dense, glossy glaze, our Hoxton tiles are reminiscent of handmade Moroccan designs. These rectangular tiles come in a carefully chosen selection of shades, from vibrant Bottle Green to pale Peach, and feature a gently undulating surface as well as distressed edges for an authentic feel. Use in conjunction with large-format tiles in complementary colours, or combine with another shade from the Hoxton range for a harmonious two-tone scheme.

2. Combine saturated colour with a modern matt finish

If you like the idea of a brick tile that’s clean-lined and uniform, opt for Oska. Its rectangular porcelain design feels distinctly contemporary, and is an ideal choice for floors as well as walls. As with other brick tiles in our collection, Oska can be staggered, laid in a herringbone format or stacked for a pleasingly linear grid-like effect. This range’s matt finish makes it a great coloured tile for modern spaces, but it works just as well in traditional interiors. Try a delicate hue such as Shell, or a statement shade like Navy or Jungle Green.

3. Try a slim rectangular tile with a rustic touch

Our Alba tiles have a handmade feel that’s imparted by deliberate imperfections on both the surface and the edges of this slim rectangular design. Alba comes in both a gloss and a matt finish, each of which lends a different quality to the range’s tonal selection of colours, which spans from black and inky blue to off-white. We love to see these tiles used in a mix-and-match scheme, such as a striped design, or combined in multiple shades to create a design that’s looser and more irregular.

4. Let a slender brick format elongate your space

Super-slim with a light-grabbing glaze, our Loki wall tile collection features an elongated format that offers a fresh take on a brick tile. Choose from a rich and rosy shade of pink, a selection of cool tones – such as Mint, Ocean and Navy – and a soothing palette of neutrals. Loki’s long and slender design makes a herringbone formation even more eye-catching; choose a pale tile and a dark grout to amplify the effect. Pair this range with understated large-format floor tiles to keep the focus on the walls, or combine Loki’s graphic appeal with a geometric design for a more maximalist scheme.

5. Go for old-world glamour with green marble bricks

For a brick tile that makes a serious impact, consider our Fitz Green Honed Marble rectangular tiles. With its forest-green hue and pale white veining, this statement design is opulent without being ornate, bringing and air of sophistication to any space, from cloakrooms to kitchens. Fitz’s rectangular format looks really effective when laid in a stacked design; we also love to see it paired with chequerboard tiles from the same range for a glamorous space with a nostalgic feel.

6. Add texture and warmth using reclaimed-style tiles

If you’re on the hunt for an earthy and rugged rectangular design, look no further than our Brik wall and floor tiles. Available in four warm, neutral shades, Brik blends the character of traditional terracotta bricks with a hardwearing porcelain construction that’s perfect for high-traffic areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms and hallways. These authentic-looking tiles lend floors and walls a reclaimed look, which works wonderfully well in modern, period and industrial interiors. Stagger them or lay in a herringbone pattern for a realistic alternative to salvaged bricks.

7. Opt for glazed bricks in ice cream-inspired colours

This aptly named ceramic tile range comes in a palette of mood-lifting shades that can be used together for an effect that’s both soothing and joyful. Available in matt and glazed finishes, Gelato’s pretty pastel colourways look as good on their own as they do when matched with other tones within the range. Consider creating a colourblock effect with these textural brick tiles, or combine with a patterned tile in complementary hues for a harmonious scheme.
