How to Mix and Match Bathroom Tiles

Ideas and inspiration for mixing bathroom tiles with confidence

Four ways to mix and match bathroom tiles. From the quietly cohesive to the confidently bold.

Mixing bathroom tiles isn’t about matching everything perfectly. It’s about knowing which surfaces to connect and which to contrast. These four approaches to bathroom tile combinations cover everything from the most considered to the most confident.

1. Start with tone

The simplest way to mix and match bathroom tiles is to stay within the same tonal family. Different materials, different formats, different textures, but the same underlying warmth or coolness holding everything together.

Fitz Claret Honed Marble Octagon Mosaic on the floor alongside Terrazzo Claret Honed on the walls is a good example. Two distinct surfaces, all pulling from the same deep, warm palette. The result feels cohesive without being repetitive.

2. Let one surface lead

Choose one surface to carry the room and let everything else support it. This works particularly well when you want a bathroom to feel considered without being busy.

Kin Sand and Kin Slate Gloss Porcelain on the walls give the room its character through gentle tonal contrast within the same collection. On the floor, Bosco Beige Matt Stone Effect Porcelain on the walls with Bosco Taupe Matt Stone Effect Porcelain Cross with Beige insets brings quiet architectural detail while everything above stays calm.

3. Commit to contrast

Contrast works when it’s deliberate. The mistake is choosing tiles that almost contrast but don’t quite commit. When mixing bathroom tiles, make the difference count.

Zellige Sky, Black and Ivory Gloss Ceramic used together creates a surface that shifts and catches the light differently across each tile. Hoxton Pink and Burnt Orange Gloss Porcelain on the walls with Ceppo Garda Honed Marble underfoot takes the same principle further, warm colour above, cool stone below, the difference between them doing all the work.

4. Lean in to marble

When one material is strong enough, the most effective thing you can do is use more of it. Marble across walls, floors and surfaces, carried through in different formats rather than a single tile, creates a bathroom that feels genuinely immersive.

Calacatta Verde Honed Marble on the walls and floor, with the Herringbone Mosaic adding texture in the shower, gives a scheme real depth. Paired with Terrazzo Ivory Honed, the warmth of the terrazzo sits naturally alongside the cool green marble.

For a richer, more dramatic approach, Rosso Levanto Honed Marble carries the same principle into deeper, warmer territory.
