Our top five tile trends for 2024

FROM RICH, SATURATED COLOUR SCHEMES TO GRAPHIC MOTIFS AND ALL MANNER OF TEXTURED TILE DESIGNS, TILE TRENDS FOR 2024 LOOK TO BE AS EXCITING AND VARIED AS THE LAST.

Lately, we’ve noticed a slew of stylish interiors that have been transformed with bold shades and darker palettes, whether in earthy tones or brighter, more energising hues. If you’re interested in following this tile trend for 2024, choose from patterned and plain tiles in both matt and glazed finishes to bring colour into your space. Combine this with eye-catching stone-effect designs such as onyx-look tiles with striking marbling in an array of different shades.

Similarly, if you love the idea of combining colour and pattern, inspiration for this 2024 tile trend can range from classic to the playful. Think elegant chequerboard floors created with tonal marble tiles, or colour-blocked walls, striped designs, and chevron formats. Brick tiles can be a really effective way to play with colour, too. Combine vertical bricks in different shades in a staggered or stacked formation to soften the geometric appeal of these timeless tiles. See our Alba Gloss collection for rectangular designs in complementing shades that are perfect for creating this effect.

And if, like us, you’ve noticed interiors becoming ever more textural in 2024, you might be inclined to follow suit. Our textured tile ranges span delicate mosaics, slender bricks, and larger designs, with surface details ranging from rugged to refined. Another great way to inject texture is with wood-effect tiles and panelling, as illustrated by our Riga Slat Decor collection. These tiles are available in two shades and emulate the beauty of real timber cladding. Interest piqued? Below, we’ve compiled five of our favourite tile trends for 2024 which look set to be popular in the new year and beyond.

1. Strong Colour

Whether clashing, contrasting or harmonious, bold colour combinations will be here to stay in 2024. Experiment with samples in shades you’re drawn to and see what works in your space. You could try colour-blocking, a half-height wall in a bright hue, or drench your entire space in a statement shade. This impactful bathroom features our Stix Teal Matt Ceramic tiles on the upper part of the wall and our Gemstone Green Porcelain tiles below. Despite the juxtaposition of tile sizes, surface details, and textures, the scheme feels cohesive thanks to the strong shade of teal that unites the two designs.

2. Striped Tile Designs

Striped tiles are undeniably classic wherever they’re used in the house, but we love the playful air they bring to bathrooms and shower rooms. Here, our Zellige 2022 Gloss Ceramic tiles have been applied in a striking striped design, featuring a tonal mix of colours that are broken up by a bright strip of white to lift and lighten the overall effect. If you’d prefer your stripes on a smaller scale, look to slender tiles such as Loki Gloss Ceramic, or a patterned tile like our Eden Linear design in ceramic with a gloss finish. For something with extra wow factor, create zigzagging chevron stripes with black and white tiles from our Piazza Marble Effect Porcelain range.

3. Textured Tile Surfaces

If bright colours and bold patterns aren’t your thing, textured tiles may well be a trend you can jump on in 2024. Tactile surfaces are having a huge resurgence of late, from woven wallpapers to cork floors, and tiles are no exception. The beauty of textured tiles — whether a linear design in durable porcelain, a rugged terracotta-effect brick, or subtle and characterful natural stone — is that they will transform your space without overpowering it. This means they’re a great choice for small bathrooms and kitchens, as well as larger rooms in need of an injection of texture. This inviting living room boasts a chimney breast clad in our ridged Zen Grey Decor Gloss Porcelain tile. This was paired with the simpler White Gloss Porcelain tile from the same range.

4. Wood-Effect Tiles

Wood-effect tiles have been hugely popular throughout 2023, and demand shows no signs of slowing down. That’s why we’ve expanded our collection with an increasingly varied choice of styles and sizes. Our wood-effect tiles range from designs that mimic rustic, Scandi-style planks to those that emulate sophisticated wood panelling. The Jakob Parquet Porcelain collection is still a firm favourite at Mandarin Stone HQ, allowing for elegant combinations of wood-effect tiles and marble or mortar-style inlays. The result is a show-stopping floor that can be laid without calling on a parquet specialist, and is suitable for wet, high-traffic areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms.

5. Terracotta Tiles

Earthy, textural, and hardwearing, terracotta tiles tick all the boxes and are perfect for conjuring up that holiday feel at home. Dial up their rustic charm by pairing them with neutral walls or other textured tiles. Or alternatively mix in unexpected colours and elements to make terracotta and terracotta-effect tiles work in a more contemporary space. Here, the floor is clad with our Valencia Terracotta Effect Porcelain tiles, while the wall features the Garda Grey Stone Effect Porcelain for a moodier feel. Glossy red elements accentuate the drama created by the deep-grey walls, elevating the entire space to something altogether more unique and surprising.
