Explore red tiles for interiors, from burgundy marble and terrazzo to terracotta and glazed ceramics. Design led ideas using Mandarin Stone tiles.

Red tiles for interiors: using rich red tones to add warmth and dimension

Red tiles have become an increasingly confident choice in interior design, valued for the warmth, depth and character they bring to a space. From burgundy marble and terrazzo to terracotta and glazed ceramics, red tones introduce visual weight and material presence when used with intention.

Rather than acting as a bold statement, red tiles work best when carefully balanced, pairing the right shade with complementary textures, finishes and proportions. When specified thoughtfully, red tiles add depth and architectural interest across a wide range of interior settings.

Here’s how red tiles can be used to create a cohesive and considered colour story.

Red tiles in entrance and threshold spaces

Entrance areas and transitional spaces set the tone for an interior. Red floor tiles can create a sense of arrival without overwhelming the space when handled with restraint.

A chequerboard layout combining Fitz Claret Honed Marble with Ceppo Sicilia Honed Marble introduces depth through colour and pattern. Ceppo Sicilia’s warm beige base, soft green tones and subtle hints of deep rust balance the richness of the claret marble, creating a layered and architecturally resolved floor.

For a more textured approach, Tacta Red Matt Linear Stone Effect Porcelain tiles combine russet, terracotta and burnt umber tones. Their layered surface variation makes them well suited to circulation areas, grounding spaces while maintaining visual continuity.

Red bathroom tiles and washroom surfaces

Bathrooms and washrooms are ideal settings for introducing red tiles through surface rather than decoration. When carefully specified, red bathroom tiles bring warmth and depth without dominating the space.

Mizu Red Gloss Ceramic tiles provide a smooth architectural wall finish with strong colour definition. In this setting, they are paired with Fitz Claret Honed Marble Rustic Cut Mosaic on the floor, creating a cohesive layering of red and burgundy tones. The contrast between the refined gloss of the wall tiles and the irregular rough cut texture underfoot introduces depth through material rather than colour contrast.

For a more immersive palette, Form Russet Wall Decor Porcelain is layered with Hendrix Red Terrazzo Effect Porcelain, used both as the lower wall finish and across the floor. This creates a continuous band of burgundy, pink and softened red tones that visually grounds the space. The textured surface of Form Russet above introduces variation through relief and shadow, while the terrazzo below provides movement and tonal depth.

Alessi Clay Decor Matt Porcelain tiles offer a softer interpretation of red. Formed in a small brick format, they introduce rhythm and scale across walls, while the subtle relief texture adds surface interest without pattern. This makes them particularly effective in bathrooms and washrooms where texture does the work rather than colour alone.

For a more expressive finish, Kew Burgundy Fan Gloss Ceramic tiles bring texture and form to the forefront. Their distinctive fan shape introduces rhythm and movement, while the richly glazed surface catches and reflects light, creating shifts in tone throughout the day. The depth of the burgundy glaze, combined with the sculptural profile, makes Kew well suited to feature walls where materiality and light are key.

Red tiles in kitchens and dining spaces

In kitchens and dining spaces, red tiles add depth while pairing naturally with timber, stone and textured finishes. Deeper reds complement oak or walnut joinery, while terrazzo inspired surfaces help ground the space.

In this contemporary interior, Hendrix Red Terrazzo Effect Porcelain is used as the flooring, introducing movement and variation underfoot. The terrazzo pattern adds texture and warmth, balancing clean lined cabinetry and refined finishes.

Elsewhere, Mizu Red Decor Gloss Ceramic tiles add rhythm to vertical surfaces. Their structured relief pairs well with Dijon Di Scacchi Heritage Limestone flooring, combining classic pattern with confident colour.

For splashbacks or feature walls, Grafton Cherry Gloss Porcelain tiles introduce a controlled level of warmth. Their slim format and textured glossy surface create depth as light moves across the tile.

Rosso Tumbled Marble: a natural stone expression of red

Following the stronger reds used in kitchens, Rosso Tumbled Marble offers a softer more tactile way to introduce red through natural stone. Equally suited to both floor and wall applications, it works across feature areas and larger surface runs.

With its soft orange red base, subtle white veining and gently aged appearance, Rosso adds warmth without overpowering a space. The antique tumbled edges soften the geometry of the tile, bringing immediate character and a sense of material history.

Rosso can be laid on its own for a consistent tonal surface or combined with lighter stones in a classic chequerboard layout, such as Rosso Di Scacchi, where colour is introduced through pattern as much as tone.

Terracotta tiles: an earthier interpretation of red

Terracotta explores the red palette from a more grounded perspective. Softer and more earthy in tone, traditional terracotta tiles introduce warmth through clay rich colour, natural variation and an honest surface finish.

Terracotta flooring works particularly well in utility spaces, boot rooms and secondary interiors, where durability and character are equally important. Shown here, Alicante Terracotta brings soft red orange tones with subtle variation, creating a floor that feels practical yet full of texture and warmth.

The natural character of terracotta allows it to sit comfortably alongside timber, painted cabinetry and natural stone, making it a considered choice for interiors that prioritise longevity and material authenticity.

Why red tiles work across interiors

Red tiles may be perceived as bold, but their wide range of expressions, from burgundy marble and terrazzo to terracotta and clay, makes them highly adaptable. When used with balance, red tiles bring warmth, depth and architectural clarity to interior spaces.
